What is the easiest bookkeeping for a small contractor?

Short answerFor a one-truck or small-crew contractor, the easiest bookkeeping is the one you can do from the parking lot. With Bukuzi you send a WhatsApp photo of each materials receipt or a voice note like “20 two-by-fours and screws, $214, card”. It is saved and sorted as materials, and your dashboard shows costs, profit and who still owes you.

The problem with receipts on the job

Contractors buy materials several times a week, pay for fuel daily and get paid by clients at different times. Receipts fade on the dashboard, and by tax season nobody remembers which job they belonged to. Most accounting software expects you to sit at a desk to fix that.

What your accountant gets

Every cost sorted by category with the original photo attached, sales and profit by month, and an Excel export. Many accountants spend hours sorting a contractor's receipts at year end; this removes most of that work.

What it costs

Plans are paid monthly in US dollars: Starter $5 (receipts, voice notes, sales and expenses, weekly and monthly summary), Business $12 (adds invoices, quotes, who owes you, bills with reminders and Excel export) and VAT Pro $19 (adds VAT summaries and accounting-software exports). Every plan starts with 2 weeks free, and accountants use their dashboard for free.

Questions

Can I track what each client owes me?

Yes. Tell Bukuzi what a client paid and what is still owed, and it appears under “Who owes you” on the Business plan.

Does it work if I am driving?

You can send a voice note hands-free with your phone assistant; Bukuzi turns it into an entry and shows it to you to confirm later.

Does it replace QuickBooks?

For many small contractors, yes for day-to-day records. If your accountant uses other software, VAT Pro exports your records for it.
